How do you keep a 2 yr old QUIET????
A couple of weeks ago my hubby started a new position at his company, it's in the same department but he was promoted, a job he has worked hard and studied hard for.
This position has very different hours than what we were accustomed too, see hubby's old hours were so wonderful, he was always home all morning or all evening, he was always underfoot. The girls were lucky to have Daddy around so much , so was Mommy!!!
The new hour are nights and days , 12 hour shifts (6am to 6pm, vise versa), the last 2 weeks hubby has been on nights.
So my dilemma is how to keep my children quiet, especially the 2 yr old who volume control only has loud and even louder.
We live in a very small little bungalow, the washroom right beside the our bedroom. My kids think the washroom is a playground, they party in there??, I don't get it either, but they do?
So I have spent the last two trying to teach whisper, tip toe and quiet. Well we as parents all know when you want tor expect something from you kids they are going to do the polar opposites, right?
So I have put out clothes the night before, kept the kids downstairs, shuttled them outside as quickly as I can in the mornings but I am still finding these new hours a total pain in the ***.
So short of this product, I'm at a loss.
Any suggestions out there in bloggerland for one frustrated Mommy?

Try to have freeplay loud play outside - take long trips to the park for a picnic. What I used to do was do reading hour, we'd read for an hour to be nice and quiet. Also the inside voice vs. outside voice and I'd praise when I heard an inside voice and put a sticker on the behaviour chart! Great incentive! ;)
Congrats on the job!
love special families ideas. Outside stuff sounds best to me, coming from a mom with an extra active 2 yr old I could not keep her quiet if I had to. Went to a swim team meeting the other night for oldest trteasure and had no choice but to leave early. I just choose to know this shall pass some day and not get frustrated and enjoy her youthful love of life personality. I enjoy naptime as well. ;)
lets see... if you can play outside here are some things that came to my mind besides playdoh, shaving cream art, bubbles, and I don;t know if you have a yard big enough for sand but I read this idea once of buying a rubbermaid tub with lid and pouring some sand in and have some containers and little matchbox cars to play with. the new color wonder paint is pretty nice too.
you could have a contest to see who can be the quietest indoors and then have a prize or stickers leading to a prize (who can collect the most stickers, etc) at the end of the day. That'd be game then. You could create an art project if they are into it, where they have to tell a story through pictures and they can't talk about it at all until they are done with the image. That would buy you some time.
Good luck!
Well, my hubby is a shift worker too. And also a heavy sleeper so I can tell you what works for us, but might not work for a light sleeper (me).
He wears ear plugs and has a fan going for white noise.
Is there a different room your hubby can sleep in?
I am there with you and I am about to use duct tape too! Ms.Dragonfly's idea sounds good.
My mom use to run an air conditioner in her room. Almost getting to cold for that now however.
You can buy a 'SOUND MACHINE' at Wal-Mart. It has white noise on it and the volume is adjustable.
They are found in the drug section as a therapy type of thing. We take one with us when we are at hotels so we don't hear the people in the halls etc.
I have no kids as of yet, so I can't help ya... I'd be the duct tape mommy...lol.
Duct tape works for me! Try running a fan in the room. We use that for Kieren. The white noise cancels a lot of the voices and daily stuff. My husband can sleep through Kieren's night terrors, even when I put her against him in the bed! It's getting hubby to wake up and help that the issue here!
New job
Duct tape or hotel.
