Tomorrow Jillian starts round three of her speech therapy. I am somewhat apprehensive, during her assessment she would not open her mouth as long as the Pathologist was present in the room. When she left (listened outside the room) Jillian continued to be her bubbly, effervescent self. It has been difficult for the Pathologist when she refuses to interact with them.
I hope the third time is the charm...

Good luck with round 3. Sofia does the exact same thing Jillian does! She talks up a storm around us and then the ST comes and she is quite as a mouse. I keep telling the ST that she really does talk...promise.
Hugs,
Jonni
Feisty little thing huh? Maybe she gets that from her Momma! lol
Stop by....you'll want to read my latest psot! ;)
The poor pathologist and poor Jillian. Hope it all goes smoothly.
Kieren wouldn't talk to or in front of the speech therapist for more than 3 months!!!! I understand your frustration!!! I'm here if you need to talk or vent, sweetie!
I hope it goes well I will be thinking of you tomorrow.
Good luck!!
Has she said why she is clamming down? If she does not like the pathologist, maybe you can switch? I think it is imperative the patient and therapist get along and trust each other in order for the therapy to work. We are lucky that so far Kerri is loving her speech therapy with Melissa.
I am all for bribing, but first I would talk to her and just find out what is going on and why. Maybe she just needs time to warm up to this pathologist? And can you stay in the room with them? That might make your daughter feel more comfortable.
Emilee also did not like the pathologist. She kept looking the other way and acting up. She normally is not like that so after a second attempt, I asked for another pathologist. The second one was great. She didnt come in as a doctor but as just a person talkinmg to me and then to Emilee. Soon she gained Emilees trust amd all went well.
Emilee is finally catching up verbally. She just needed a bit of coaching
good luck
