Playing house..

Lately the best conversations between Jennifer and I happen at the dinner table or in the car.
Last night driving to piano lessons Jennifer and I were immersed in conversation all the while Jillian listening intently.
"Mom, I have a meeting tomorrow with the boss"
"You do, who's the boss"
"Trevor Mom, he's the boss of the army"
"The boss of the army?" I asked in surprise
"Yes Mom, the army, were in the army and he is the boss, I am Hawk girl, you know why I'm hawk girl"
"Okay, why are you Hawk girl?"
"I can scream like a hawk" Jennifer is now screeching at a deafening pitch.
I am quite intrigued at her talk of the army so I continue to ask questions.
"What does your army do?"
"We protect the people and food from the bad men that blow things up"
I am now quiet in the car, there is silence.
I long for the innocence of my childhood for my daughters, when bad men didn't blow things up and we just played house....

your story reminds me of a letter I received a few months ago from my cousin who is serving i n Iraq. we are very close and have been since childhood. He was writing about childhood memoriesand then recalled when we used to play army. He said remember when we used to shoot eachother and pretend to fall down and die until we got tagged by someone and then we could run around and pretend all over again. He wished life was that simple now. Its so sad that war is a part of our childrens childhood.

Glad everyone feels better

Wow. I would have been silent too. Only because I would not know what to say.
I made the mistake of reading the entire Poppy book to Kerri and now she is obsessed with war stories and dying and bad guys. Oy, what have I done! Thank goodness the holidays are right around the corner and she will have prettier things to fill her head with!

Our kids will grow up in such a different time. I am fearful for them. I can offer you this: I teach 16-17 year olds and there are many, many who are going to make a positive change in our world in the future.

Our children certainly are growing up in a world far removed from our own childhoods. That is sad.

Well, it is sad that innocene is gone much sooner than when we were kids but her hawk name is pretty funny.

Glad you guys are better.
